Because the right wants anyone but them to help the poor

The reality is we have real hunger in the United States, and it is growing. Food insecurity, the new politically correct term for it, means that people don't know where their next meal is coming from, and often go without. Charity is not and will not pick up the slack; charitable donations are maxed out already on taking up the slack from government cut backs.

Clearly the right is envisioning the United Sates as a third world nation --- and so long as they get their cut, apparently they just don't mind that at all.

  1. It was a jaw-dropping interview ... yet, my mind kept returning to the words of George W. Bush talking about the North Korean Leader (as recounted by Bob Woodward in his book, Bush at War) :
'I loathe Kim Jong Il!' Bush shouted, waving his finger in the air. 'I've got a visceral reaction to this guy, because he is starving his people.' "

I keep wondering when someone will say that about the House GOP who voted for $40 billion cuts in SNAP (which was mentioned in the piece) but also voted to change the rules to reduce payments for LIHEAP (low income heating assistance program.)

Some can see it ... such as Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) who criticized members of his party in Washington in an interview with The New York Times saying there "seems to be a war on the poor" as some imply that if you’re poor, "somehow you’re shiftless and lazy.”

“You know what?” Kasich responded to his own question. “The very people who complain ought to ask their grandparents if they worked at the W.P.A.”

On the other hand, there are crafty politicians like Sean Duffy (R-WI) who is so concerned about the poor that he scheduled a Hunger and Homelessness Summit. That brought a great letter-to-the-editor in response : We the people in his district, Wisconsin and the nation would be much better off if Duffy would spend more time reading the Sermon on the Mount than messages from the Heritage Foundation and the Koch brothers. I think there is promised a special punishment for hypocrites.

If you get a chance, please encourage your readers to Like on FACEBOOK, Duffy's replacement, Kelly Westlund ... the page is here
